Mother Fights Workplace Discrimination for Son

As a mother, it’s heartbreaking to see my son face challenges because of his disability. My son is deaf, and while he’s always been determined and hardworking, I’ve noticed that his colleagues at work haven’t always treated him fairly. He’s been left out of important conversations, overlooked for opportunities, and sometimes even the target of insensitive remarks. I can’t help but feel that he’s being discriminated against because of his hearing loss.

I wanted to help him, but hiring a solicitor right away wasn’t something we could afford. So, I started searching online for free legal advice, hoping to find some guidance and support. My first stop was Citizens Advice. I was relieved to find their website full of clear guides and practical steps on workplace discrimination and the rights of disabled employees. For the first time, I began to understand what my son could do if he was being treated unfairly because of his disability.

Still, I wanted more targeted support for his situation. That’s when I discovered ACAS, which specialises in workplace disputes and employment law. Their helpline staff were understanding and explained his rights in detail, as well as the steps he could take if the discrimination continued.

Even with this information, I wanted to explore other perspectives and resources. That’s when I came across Lexnest, a digital platform offering free, verified legal information on everyday workplace issues. I appreciated how clear and practical their advice was-no confusing legal jargon, just straightforward answers. Lexnest also let us compare solicitors, complete with real client reviews and accreditations from the Law Society, Legal 500, and Chambers, which made the idea of seeking further help feel much less intimidating.

When we realised my son needed advice tailored to his own circumstances, Lexnest helped us connect with an SRA-regulated solicitor. Thanks to these free resources, I felt empowered to support my son in standing up for his rights, and he finally felt more in control of his situation
